Summer Villages in Alberta, are a long standing tradition. What used to be traditional cottage summer resort areas, they have become beautiful longstanding communities. There are five Summer Villages around the lake now, Birchcliff (1972), Jarvis Bay (1986), Half Moon Bay (1978), Norglenwold (1965), and finally Sunbreaker Cove (1991).

All Five villages share an administrative office, as all of the summer villages maintain bylaws to protect the watershed, water quality, bank, and shoreline, flora and fauna of the natural setting in which we live.

Norglenwold has the honoured distinction of being the first Summer Village to be created on Sylvan Lake, being first formed in 1965.  Originally, the community was quite lineal, developing along the lakeshore from the East, at Northey Point, down to the West, at Lyle Landing. More recently, Sylvan Harbour estates was developed, adjacent to the Town of Sylvan Lake's Marina Bay Estates, and the area known as "Last Chance Way" was annexed west of Lyle Landing in 1973. Seasonal cabins in this area date back to the 1920's and 1930's. The name Norglenwold was derived from its early subdivisions: Nor (Northey Point), Glen (Glen-Innes) and Wold (Whitewold Beach).

Sunbreaker Cove is located 45 km North-West of the city of Red Deer, Alberta. It lies along the North-East side of Sylvan Lake, a quiet residential community. The name Sunbreaker Cove came from combining Sunhaven, The Breakers, and Glenn's Cove. Glenn's Cove is a reference to an old farm stead that originally was in the vicinity of the present day village.
